Special Long-Term CD Rate at Wildfire Credit Union in Michigan - Local Only

POSTED ON BY

Wildfire Credit Union

Wildfire Credit Union is offering a special 58-month CD with a 2.75% APY. Minimum deposit is $2,000. This special CD is listed in the credit union's rates page as of 3/30/2011. Above the rate table it lists a date range of 3/29/2011 to 4/4/2011.

My last report on this credit union was in October when the credit union was offering a special 4.00% 6-year CD. Unfortunately, that is no longer available. They seemed to have changed the disclosure since October. The disclosure that's now linked below the rate table doesn't seem to include the early withdrawal penalty. Based on the penalties listed in October, CD terms of 36 to 59 months have a 4-month interest penalty.

Membership is open to those who live, work, worship or attend college in one of the following Michigan counties: Saginaw, Bay, Midland, Genesee, Gratiot, Shiawassee and Tuscola. Please refer to the credit union's membership page for the full details.

The credit union's overall health score is 5 stars (out of 5) with a Texas Ratio of 4.11% (excellent) based on December 2010 data. Please refer to our financial overview of Wildfire Credit Union for more details. The credit union is federally insured by the NCUA (Charter # 60057).

How It Compares?

For CDs nationally available, the best 60-month CD rate is 3.00% APY at Connexus Credit Union but this requires an active checking account. Without a checking requirement, the best 5-year CD rate is 2.93% APY at Melrose Credit Union. The best 5-year rate at a bank is 2.80% APY at Sovereign Bank. These rates are accurate as of 3/30/2011.
