Top CD Rates at Digital Credit Union in MA - Easy Membership

Digital Credit Union

Digital Credit Union continues to offer competitive CD and IRA CD rates. The best CD rates require a $25K minimum deposit and a Relationship Checking relationship. The two best deals are a 2.86% APY 5-year CD and a 1.36% APY 1-year add-on CD. Without Relationship Checking, the rates are 25 basis points lower. The non-IRA rates are 10 basis points lower for a $500 minimum deposit. These rates are listed in DCU's certificate rates page as of 10/05/2011.

Refer to DCU's checking page to see how to qualify for the Relationship Checking. It doesn't look too hard. It can be done with a DCU free checking account when you have direct deposit, e-statements and an active DCU Visa Credit Card.

The CD details are listed at the bottom of DCU certificate application checklist. The early withdrawal penalty for terms of 3 to 5 years is up to 180 days of dividends on the amount withdrawn.

For more details about other DCU certificates and other DCU perks like the remote deposit feature and free FICO credit scores, please refer to my 2010 DCU review.

Credit Union Membership

Anyone can join DCU via membership in an association. Refer to this credit union page for the list of associations. The least expensive membership is $10 for joining Reach Out for Schools. You can be immediately eligible to join DCU if you live, work, worship or attend school in parts of Georgia and Massachusetts. Refer to the Join DCU page for the full details. I have more details about the application process in my 2010 DCU review.

I wonder if they waive the early withdrawal penalty for their ira-cd for people over age 59 1/2?

Ken, the highest nationwide 5-yr rate (even for $100k) in the tables is for Wings Credit Union (2.73), followed by Melrose CU (2.68), Velocity CU (2.62).  At the top of this article, the rate for Digital CU shows 2.76% $500 min w Relationship Checking, not 2.86% as indicated in the article.    Could you pls take a look at this?  Perhaps I am overlooking something.  TIA

Pearlbrown, thanks for the note. DCU and Firstmark weren't marked in the tables as being available nationwide. I just fixed that. Wings was marked as nationwide. I changed that to just available in MN & WA. Technically, it's available nationwide, but only if you're employed in the airline industry. Since it's not available to 99% of the U.S. population, I took away its nationwide label.

I posted this on another blog but wondered if others do not get regular CDs from Digital CU.  I only got a receipt with no maturity date, interest rate or disclosure on it.  I was told to go on internet and print it out if I needed a paper copy.  This was a downer for me and I wondered if all  credit unions do CDs like this.
