WesBanco has a new checking account promotion that's scheduled to last until November 21, 2011. Unlike most checking promos, this one doesn't require direct deposit. However, you'll have to make a lot of debit card purchases to qualify for the full bonus. The bonus is listed at this WesBanco promotions page. There are three levels of bonus amounts with different number of debit card purchases that are required. These requirements must be met within 90 days of account opening:
- $50 for 10 purchases
- $75 for 30 purchases
- $100 for 50 purchases
The bank still offers a free checking account with no monthly maintenance fees and no minimum balance requirement. Below is the offer's important small print:
Customers with a current checking account, or who transfer funds from an existing WesBanco deposit account, are not eligible for the bonus. The minimum balance to open an account and receive the bonus is $50. Debit card purchases: Within 90 days of account opening there must be 10 debit card purchase transactions posted to your account to receive a $50 bonus, 30 purchase transactions posted to receive a $75 bonus or 50 purchase transactions posted to receive $100. Bonus based on total purchase transactions posted within the 90-day period and will be credited to the account within five business days at the end of the 90 day period. This offer may not be used in combination with other offers, is subject to change without notice and limited to one per customer. Customers that have received a new account opening or debit card usage bonus on any previous WesBanco checking account are not eligible for this offer. Employees are not eligible for bonus. Offer valid through 11/21/11.
I've posted on similar deals from WesBanco over the last couple of years. In those past posts readers have commented that WesBanco does require a branch visit.
Most of WesBanco branches are located in Ohio and West Virginia. There are also two branches in Pennsylvania southwest of Pittsburgh.
It's interesting to note that WesBanco has assets of $5.41 billion. Since they're under $10 billion, they're not subject to the debit card fee cap. So that's probably why they are still providing rewards for debit card usage.
WesBanco has an overall health score of 4 stars (out of 5) with a Texas Ratio of 9.11% (above average) based on June 2011 data. Please refer to our financial overview of WesBanco Bank for more details. The bank has been a FDIC member since 1934 (Certificate # 803).
Other Bank and Credit Union Bonuses
We have a new bank promotions page with a table of all of the active bank and credit union promotions. You can filter the table based on the type of promotion and based on your state. I have more details about how to use this page in this blog post.
