Top CD Rates at Charleston Area Credit Union - Local Only

POSTED ON BY

There are a few institutions which reward senior members and Jumbo deposits with premium rates. The premium rates are often not that substantial, but that's not the case for Charleston Area Credit Union. When you combine the Jumbo and senior premium rates, the credit union has some very competitive share and IRA certificate rates. The best three are a 2.50% APY 5-year CD, a 2.00% APY 4-year CD and a 1.80% APY 3-year CD. Minimum deposit is $50,000. This is for "star" members who are at least 55. It appears star membership requires a checking account. Without the star membership status, the rates are 25 basis points lower. Non-Jumbo rates for minimum deposit of $500 are also 25 basis points lower. These rates are listed in the credit union's savings rates page as of 2/15/2012.

Credit union membership is open to those who live, work, worship, volunteer, attend school, or belong to an organization that operates in Charleston county, South Carolina. Please refer to the credit union's membership page for the full details. A minimum balance of $25 in the savings account is required for membership.

The credit union has two branches in Charleston.

Charleston Area Credit Union has an overall health score at DepositAccounts.com of 5 stars (out of 5) with a Texas Ratio of 6.34% (excellent) based on September 2011 data. Please refer to our financial overview of Charleston Area Credit Union for more details. The credit union is federally insured by the NCUA (Charter # 8059).

The above rates are accurate as of 2/15/2012.

Senoirs should also check this out. Northwest FCU has the Heritage Club for members age 62 and over. Get extra 0.25% on a CD, plus get free wire transfers. No checking account required.

For their 5 yr jumbo ($100K min) rate is now 2.07% apy 0.25% (Heritage Club) = 2.32% apy. Can"t beat this!

My NWFCU 3 yr. 4.22% CD matures this week. Happy that I am now old enough to roll into this deal.

Teacher's Fed CU 5 Year CD is at 2.26% with no age restriction and it doesn't have to be a Jumbo.
