Top 18-Month CD Rate at Libertad Bank - Texas Only

Libertad Bank continues to offer a good CD deal. It's not as good as the special it was offering earlier this year, but it's still a very competitive deal. The new special is an 18-month CD with a 1.25% APY. Minimum deposit is $1,000, and the maximum deposit is $90,000. This rate and more details are listed at the bank's CD page as of 10/23/2012.

There's an online application link located on the bank's CD page. A branch visit is not required. However, I was told only Texas residents are eligible to open these accounts. Prior to opening the account a bank representative would need to obtain a copy of a photo ID with the current address listed on the ID for each signer on the account.

A few readers might remember Libertad Bank for its reward checking account, the Amazing Checking. Back in 2008 the bank was offering a top reward checking account that was available nationwide. It didn't last long. As I reported in 2009, the bank was forced to slash rates by the FDIC.

Libertad Bank is a small bank with one office located in Austin, Texas. It has an overall health score at of 5 stars (out of 5) with a Texas ratio of 3.78% based on June 2012 data. Please refer to our financial overview of Libertad Bank for more details. The bank has been a FDIC member since 2006 (FDIC Certificate # 58082).

If you're looking at cd's for income purposes you should consider the balance allocation annuity.  There's something call the BALIR rider which provide 5.5% income, unlimited growth with 3 allocation to choose from, 4% compounded growth to your heirs and most importantly tax deffered growth.  The commitment period is 8 years and up to 12 years.  You can all the riders offered by this annuity and it will not cost you a dime unless your account value increases.  Get a free demo by visiting or calling 800-954-3436.

If the government would allow tax free withdraws from IRAs and 401Ks, that would be even better.

Probably not.  But it would be an attempt to "right the wrong" that has been done to us retirees.
