Frick Tri-County Federal Credit Union has started to offer something that we haven’t seen in awhile: a 3% CD. It has a special 10-year CD with a 3.00% APY. There’s also a special 7-year CD with a 2.00% APY. Minimum deposit is $1,000, and the maximum is $100,000. These specials are listed on the credit union’s home page on its main rotating image as of 6/25/2013. It’s a limited-time offer.
With the latest Treasury yield increases, you have to wonder if these CD rate increases may be the start of a trend. It will make it difficult for savers to decide when or if they should jump on a long-term CD.
Credit union membership is open to persons who live, work or worship in Fayette, Washington or Greene County, Pennsylvania. Please refer to the credit union’s New-Accounts page for more details. Membership requires a minimum initial deposit of $50 in the share savings account.
Frick Tri-County FCU branches are located in the Pennsylvania cities of Washington, Charleroi, Uniontown and Waynesburg.
The credit union has an overall health score at DepositAccounts.com of 5 stars (out of 5) with a Texas ratio of 4.91% (excellent) based on March 2013 data. Please refer to our financial overview of Frick Tri-County FCU for more details. The credit union is federally insured by the NCUA (Charter # 14775).
How These CD Rates Compare
There is still a special custodial 10-year CD that’s nationally available with a 2.38% interest rate. This special is scheduled to end on 6/28/13. I have more details in this blog post. The highest nationally available 10-year CD rate that’s directly available from a bank or credit union is 2.00% APY at Apple Federal Credit Union. Discover Bank offers a 1.90% APY 10-year CD and a 1.80% APY 7-year CD. These rates are accurate as of 6/25/2013.
