POSTED ON BY

Greater Nevada Credit Union

Greater Nevada Credit Union started offering great rates on IRA CD specials early this year. Those specials were extended a couple of months ago to regular CDs. The credit union has just changed the specials, and the new specials are even a better deal. The specials include a 3% APY 4-year CD, a 2.50% APY 3-year CD, a 2.00% APY 2-year CD and a 1.50% APY 18-month CD. These are also available as IRA CDs. Minimum deposit is $1,000. These rates are listed in the credit union’s rates page as of 6/10/2014.

Greater Nevada Credit Union has long been offering a reward checking account. I first reported on it in 2008. The account is now called Aspire Checking and it pays 2.50% APY on balances up to $10K (as of 6/10/2014) if certain monthly requirements are met.

Credit union membership is open to those who live or work in northern Nevada. Please refer to the credit union's "join" page for the full details. Membership requires a $5 fee and a minimum deposit of $25 into your share savings account. You can join and open accounts using an online application.

Is this a better deal than the 7 year Prime Rate Certificate at Tobyhanna?

Nevada credit union is virtually impossible to join unless you live or work In the counties they have branches--and even with that--you have to almost take a blood initiation.

The Tobyhanna has a slippery way to get in by joining an association, but has a lower strength rating and again--its branches are in a pretty sparse part of penn.

A LOT OF WORK TO GET INTO EITHER

BUT, IF YOU CAN MOVE TO RENO, STAY AWAY FROM THE CASINOS, THEN THE NEVADA CREDIT UNION AT 48 MONTHS 3% IS THE BEST DEAL IN THE NATION!
