Wait a minute. Didn't I read here on Oct. 9 that this bank was no longer accepting new customers?

What's up?

Only KeyBank's internet division, KeyDirect, is no longer accepting new customers.

Given the above list of payments that do not qualify as automated payments, what would be an example of a qualifying automated payment?

They are making it next to impractical to qualify for the bonus.
Too many restrictions and pitfalls and at the end we have to beg and promise to become loyal customer in order to receive the bonus.

Banking Guy, I entered Florida zip and got this:
"We apologize, we do not offer this product in your area.

Key.com offers great interest rates directly to consumers and businesses in 14 states including AK, CO, CT, ID, IN, KY, ME, MI, NY, OH, OR, UT, VT, or WA."

Your posting includes Florida, who is correct?

Regarding the states, I just copied what was in their FAQ.

I just called Key, and any pull from the account counts as an automated payment, such as a payment to a CC or a payment to Verizon or another business as long as that company is doing the pull. I did not ask about an ACH pull from another Savings/Checking account.

Thanks for this tip, I will call to find out more. Also more fine print from here: https://www.key.com/gen/html/mkt-q409-125-faq.html

The debit card transaction has to be with a KeyBank Rewards debit card, which doesn't come with the free checking account by default. This Rewards debit card has an annual fee of $20 which is waived for the first year.

I agree with the earlier post that says there are lots of restrictions on this bonus.
