The Discover Student Credit Card is a cash back card designed for college students. You can learn how to manage a credit card and control your spending while still earning some free money back on your purchases in cash back. You will earn 1% cash back on every single purchase you put on the card. On top of that you will earn 5% cash back on specific bonus categories that rotate on a schedule. One month you will get 5% cash back at gas stations for those last minute road trips, and the next month you get the same 5% bonus at restaurants for the big date. Want to earn even more cash back? Shop through Discover's online mall at over 175 retailers and you will earn anywhere from 5% to 20% in cash back. You can redeem all of your cash back rewards for a credit on your statement or for gift cards to popular retailers. You can usually get more back via a retailer gift card than you can in pure cash – the retailer is willing to give you a bonus so you will shop there with the gift card.
This student credit card also comes with a great introductory APR offer. For the first 9 months of card membership, your interest rate is 0% on purchases you put on the card. You will need to pay the minimum on the card to avoid fees, but this can help you spread out some of those textbook purchase costs. You also will never pay an annual fee to hold this card. That means you can earn cash back for free by just paying off your balance every month.
