Money Magazine's Best Banks 2012

In this Money Magazine article, the best 10 banks were picked from the group of the 40 biggest retail banks by consumer deposits and number of branches. The best banks were chosen based on the banks' checking, savings, and one-year CD options.

Capital One Bank won the category of standalone checking account. I reviewed its High Yield Checking in August. It offers 1% APY for the first year, but there are some gotchas.

Ally Bank won the online bank category and the 1-year CD category. It tied with Barclays for the best savings account.
