Bond Funds Pump Up Retiree Income

Bond funds have risk and current yields aren't great, but they're another option to consider. This Wall Street Journal article has a good basic overview of some funds and issues to consider. Here's one fund mentioned:
To get a reasonable yield, as well as diversification across different types of bonds, many advisers look to low-cost intermediate bond funds from Vanguard, such as the firm's Intermediate-Term Investment-Grade fund (VFICX), which is yielding 2.2%.
