American Express Blue Cash & Blue Cash Preferred ----> BIG Changes For 2013

Monday, October 15, 2012 - 2:26 PM
Spotted some comments on NW about changes to Amex Blue Cash & Preferred for Jan 2013. Amex is putting a spending cap of $6000 on the 3% & 6% grocery spending. I was wondering how long they would be able to sustain the unlimited cash back. Got the $75 annual fee Preferred last year, and have been using the heck out of it. I verified it with a Amex CSR and this was the reply:

Dear Mr. xxxx,

I would like to inform you that as per the charges in the reward program associated with your Blue Cash Preferred Card, the first $6,000 of purchases at U.S. stand-alone supermarkets each calendar year qualifies for 6% cash back; 1% thereafter.

This change becomes effective when your account renews on or after January 15, 2013. Therefore, on your Card account also the first $6,000 of purchases at U.S. stand-alone supermarkets each calendar year qualifies for 6% cash back; 1% thereafter.

Please note that we are constantly evaluating what benefits and services are most valuable to our Cardmembers and we occasionally make changes to ensure we can continue to deliver high value on all our products. By adding a cap of $6,000 we are able to preserve our ability to continue to offer 3% (Blue Cash Everyday) / 6% (Blue Cash Preferred) cash back for supermarket purchases up to $6,000.

We regularly evaluate our products and services to understand what our Cardmembers value most. We will notify you in advance of any changes to the terms of your account.

I hope this information is useful.

We truly value your membership with us since 19xx. Have an excellent day ahead.
Sincerely,

Axxx Cxxxxxx

I got the card in Sept. 2011, thus another year to enjoy the unlimited 6% CB for grocery purchases.
