Web-based alternatives to traditional advisers are springing up. Many financial planners charge a percentage of your assets and require a steep asset minimum—often above $100,000. The online firms, by contrast, offer a range of basic services, from tailored financial plans for a few hundred dollars or less, to continuing investment advice for a monthly fee.
