I found this document (Finding a lost pension (PDF) from the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp (PBGC) by following a few of the links in the article above. Page 12 includes information about a possible shortcut to finding a lost pension. If you visit PBGC’s Web site at www.pbgc.gov, click on the “Workers and Retirees” tab at the top of the page, and then click on the link under the heading “Pension Search: Help us find missing participants.”
As of 2009, PBGC’s listing identified about 37,000 people who had pensions waiting for them.
