Government Shutdown; Something To Think About

Tuesday, October 15, 2013 - 8:21 PM

The last government shutdown was 18 years ago in 1995.

Anyone who has worked for the government is familiar with requisitions, bidding, awarding contracts etc. It is a time consuming process. Even the simplest request takes months not days or hours.

Miraculously, in less than 8 hours of the 2013 shutdown, tens of thousands professionally printed 3X4 foot signs with custom logos appeared all over the country saying- this park, this facility, etc. is closed due to government shutdown.  These signs were designed, specifications were determined, signs were then requisitioned, bids were posted and government contracts were awarded. The materials were then ordered and the signs manufactured then distributed though U.S. Mails or freight companies to their proper destination.

This current shutdown had to have been orchestrated and planned well in advance, of at least 6-8 months ago. Millions of tax dollars were appropriated and spent in this process. And if they had come to an agreement and avoided the shutdown 14 days ago, millions of OUR tax money would have been wasted once again. There must be a paper trail a mile long leading directly to the White House.

Come to think of it Joe Biden has not been seen or heard from in a long time. He has been almost entirely out of the picture.Perhaps he has been too busy working on these signs.

Certainly makes you wonder what other project(s) using our money has been frivolously wasted and ended up getting thrown in the trash.

Well the "Shakedown" is supposed to be over:

w.twcc.com/news/articles/2013/10/gov-t-reopens-after-congress-ends-16-day-shutdown

It seems to be only temporary but that gives all "caring" Americans a chance to vote OUT all senators and congressmen who were in office and involved in this fiasco.  When I go to the polls, I will vote Independent and make sure I put NO Republican OR Democrat back in office.  It's truly time to clean house and show the world that real Americans will not put up with having "their" government shutdown!  Enough of their partisan politics and games.  This Shutdown showed both parties need to be cleaned out.  I would rather do a write-in vote naming Donald Duck as my senator than to give the one I have another chance.  He is up for reelection so it's pay-back time.  I do hope all those Vets who had to tear down those fences from "their" memorial will not have short memories and also clean out their senators and congressmen.

In just a short time, they will be bickering again so we have to beat them to it and put in as many "new" people as possible.  It's pay-back time people.  Will you have the courage to do it or just be un-American and accept this kind of treatment from those you pay to run your country?

I appreciate opinion but facts do matter. If #1 had listened to the process of the shut down or the news he would have known that Reid asked, as he had in the past that the senate leaders could handle it and if they came to an impasse that they then would ask for the Vice-President's help. Again facts do matter.

Also would like to know where the information came from about the signs. Do you know that these were not left over signs? That they were not in storage. I have worked in banks and even banks have signs, deposit slips, withdrawal slips, documents of all kinds in several fireproof vaults through the cities where they had offices. When there is a robbery do you think they send an order to an printer to print up signs to put in the windows? The job of a business or the gov is to be prepared for all circumstances that one can imagine.

#2  I did listen to the news constantly and after reading your post, I know for a FACT why those politicians in Washington felt they could make a mockery of our nation to the entire world!  It's people like yourself who make excuses for them instead of making them take consequences for their terrible inactions that give them the "go-ahead" to do these things.

You are even making excuses for the signs.   You cannot prove that your "theory" is more correct than what FAR has posted.  I don't care HOW or WHEN they got those signs up, all I care about is how they made us look worldwide.  I am just as "fact" driven as you are but "bad actions" count more to me than certain pathetic facts.   You want facts?.  Politicians will tell you anything you want to hear as long as they can still get your voite.  That's a fact!  They also depend upon Americans like you to defend their bad actions and make excuses for them so maybe in a few months they can pull another stunt and get away with it.  No way.  November my senator is running for reelection and as far as I am concerned, he can keep running to another state since he won't get my family's vote.

Where did I make excuses? Sorry, I asked a question.  Do you know that these were not left over signs? That they were not in storage. Again facts do matter. Yes again we were made to look like a idiots. But we elected those idiots. Also the president used the same words from each president from Reagan (in 1986) on when threatened with a shutdown. Nothing has changed. Samo samo.

As far as a chance to vote all of them out because you don't want them. We do not get a chance before the next threat of a shutdown in Jan. Oh and by the way it was your Senator who made a deal with the vice president the last time when no one else could do it. That is why he is being targeted.

#4   Yes I know it was my senator and we are still not voting for him for many reasons. We can't vote him out until next November 2014 but there is an election this November where others can vote out their politicians.  I think we have to make examples of both parties.  I have no idea who you thought you were replying to but I do know I was making reference to FAR's post.  A hint:  "I" am a "she" not he.

You said:  "Samo, samo".  It will always be that unless the majority of Americans stick together and not allow this to happen again and our best way is to get rid of as many in both parties as we can.

Presidential elections are held in years divisable by 4, Rep are elected every 2 years and Senators every 6 years. You will not have a federal election in 2 1/2 weeks. The election ads are starting for the next primary on May 20, 2014.  The Nov voting date is always the first Tues of Nov and will be on Nov 4 2014.

#7:  What is this:

http://www.democratichub.com/election/303.aspx?o=pv&gclid=CMTgnuLInroCFZFFMgodsVwAgg

I posted that MY Senator isn't coming up until 2014 but there ARE other elections going on in 2013 for certain other districts and states.  Did Massassacusetts suddenly seceed from the Union?  Maybe you should let them know they have a Nov 2013 election coming up.  Why do you always have to think you are right about everything?  Just because you seem to misunderstand my posts does not make you correct.  What you are posting about the way elections are held may be correct.  Only a stupid wouldn't know that but I was making a point about "other" elections which are held also.  Doesn't it state 2013 for Mass. in the article?  Why are they having an election in 2013 if you say they can't?  If you are going to constantly correct my posts, you should at least understand what I am posting about.  Believe it or not but just because I post as "Paoli2" I really am not an indian who lives in a teepee.  I actually got a formatable education and achieve things with my life which I doubt even you could achieve.  I just don't share it with the entire world.  All the praise would be much for me to handle so I prefere my people to just continue to know me as a simple little barefoot indian gal.   BTW, I hate to brag but one of the friends in my past was Admiral Arleigh Burke.  Do you know who he was?  Such a lovely gentleman. He always called me by my given name, NOT "Paoli2".    Now, give it a rest!

Sorry I read the words "Next November" not 2014. Thought next November was in 2 1/2 weeks. Maybe someone changed it your posting and you did post 2014. Only local elections are now. We don't have anything to vote on in our township. The "he" was not meant for you.  Sorry about the link but it is not in this post. Another one I made? I have been working on my leaf blower changing it into a suction thing for leaves. I cut my hand and trying to make it stop bleeding. Have to stop posting and pick up the grand kids from the bus and stop the bleeding. Ma. had an election yesterday. Did not know you were writing about the election in Ma. Thought the post was about the gov shutdown.  Didn't read anything in the post Far post about Ma. Maybe I missed something. The post was about the gov shutdown and signs and there was no article link. Do not know your friend Sorry.

Sorry about your hand.  I hope you get the bleeding stopped easily.  Let's forget about the earlier posts. Indians are taught to be nice and only have "pow-wows" with their enemies.  So you aren't my enemy and pow-wow is over.  Take care and enjoy the grandkids.

I have worked in government on both sides of the Atlantic, much of it in purchasing/bidding/contracting, and this is just nonsense. The production of signs could have been done legitimately in a matter of hours. To suggest that it had to be orchestrated 6-8 months ago is absurd.
