[MarketWatch] sent $10 from New York to a colleague [...] five different ways: through PayPal, Popmoney, Google Wallet, and the recently launched Square Cash. As a control, [MarketWatch] also sent $10 by putting a good, old-fashioned check in the mail. All of these transactions were initiated at 3 p.m. eastern on a recent Friday afternoon.

Why don't they mention about giving your account routing  and account number to other party and allowing them to withdraw necessary funds when it is for large amounts to go from institution to another institution?  Don't these funds arrive immediately?  I was told there are no "holds" when it is done like this. Just curious.
