What Is The IRS Doing About Fraudulent Tax Refunds?

Taxpayers have every reason to feel outraged when the government hands out nearly $4 billion to identity thieves and takes nearly a year to figure out whether individuals really are who they say they are. But the IRS insisted last week that it has taken action and made big progress in those areas. The latest numbers back up those claims.

Makes me feel confident the IRS is involved with the healthcare law. The problem with any government run program is how issues are resolved by just throwing more tax payer money into it and there is no accountability.

The report indicates 20 Billion in fraud was prevented in 2012 vs 14 billion in 2011. Makes me wonder how much was being prevented and paid out 10-15 years ago.

The article does not mention what is being done to recover the errant funds or what penalties are being imposed on the scammers. Good luck trying to recover money sent to other countries.
