Credit Union West in Phoenix, AZ is offering some great CD promotions that have shorter EWP and higher interest rates than PenFed (for IRA CD's at least):

     60-month CD

     $10,000 - $49,999 2.90% APY
     $50,000+ 2.95% APY

     60-month IRA CD

     $10,000 - $49,999 3.15% APY
     $50,000+ 3.20% APY

EWP penalty is 180 days on these CD's.

This is not nationally available, unlike PenFed...

"Membership is open to all who live, work or worship in Maricopa or Yavapai county".

A CSR at Credit Union West (Phoenix, AZ) called me this afternoon to let me know that their 5 Yr CD Promotion will be ending "soon".  They don't give specific dates for changes, but he guess it would be at the end of January 2014.

He did say that if I got my paperwork in before the rate changed, they would honor the old rate.  I hope that's right.

I'm not living in Phoenix currently, but the corporate headquarters for my employer is in Phoenix so I visit there pretty often.

Do you have a physical address there? I was told that you had to give them a local address to join the credit union. Are you joining with an out-of-the-area address?

Alskar:  I would think you could be a member under their "if you work" requirement.  If your company has a physical address in their area and your must visit there often, I sure think you could get in through the "work" criteria.  I think it all depends upon which CSR you speak to.
