2.00% APY 49-Month CD At Third Federal

Tuesday, June 10, 2014 - 10:40 AMThird Federal Savings and Loan (OH) - Details
I did a quick DA search and I don't see any notice of the 49-month CD special at Third Federal Savings & Loan, at 2.00% APY. I don't even see it listed in the CD Rates charts. So, I'm noting it here.

49-months, 1.85% rate, 2.00% APY.

I also don't see it listed in the charts at the Third Federal Website (and maybe that is why DA has not picked it up for the CD Rates chart), but it is a banner promo there, at:

I did call Third Federal and they confirmed they are offering this CD. Third Federal is open to accounts nationwide.

me1004:  Did you notice that a 49 month CD has an 18 month EWP?  I was interested in it until I saw the harsh EWP.  I can get 2% CDs with just 6 months penalty so I would not risk such a penalty for just 2%.  They seem to have made it 49 months because the 48 month EWP is less of a penalty.  I think one would have to be real sure they were not going to need to cash this bugger in early if they purchased it.

No, I didn't look at the EWP. I never take a CD with a plan to close early -- too risky, too possible such EWPs will be changed. I look at an EWP as something for an emergency, not for a plan going in.

But yes, for nationally available, you can get a 2.25% 49-month CD at Nasa FCU, or a 2.02% 4-year CD at Melrose Credit Union too. Third Federal should be third on the list, yet DA does not list it.

I know I was reading about Third Federal last week.  That is why I checked on the EWP.  I was considering it as an option for my plans.  I thought I found out about it on DA.  However, I research a lot of other places for CDs so I could have read about it some place else.  Ken always has good reasons why he doesn't add a certain special in with the others so if he left it out, I'm sure there was a reason.  This is why it is so important that the rest of us make it known on DA about good promotions we find on our own.  Ken, does tons of work for this group and he just might miss something (which is rare, tho).

BTW, I don't get CDs with a plan to close early either but there can always be that unexpected emergency which we need extra funds for so I like to know what the EWP is.

Thanks me1004 for posting on this. It looks like a new CD special. I don't remember seeing it when I reviewed Third Federal's rates on Sunday for the CD survey. We'll add it to the tables asap.
