Planning for the Right Time To Redeem Old EE Bonds

If you have old EE Bonds, you may want to wait until 17 years before you redeem them. As described by Dr. Don in this Bankrate article:
These issues were guaranteed to double in value after 17 years. If the interest earnings are not high enough to make that happen, a one-time adjustment is made at year 17.

Dr. Don recommends using the TreasuryDirect Wizard to determine the savings bond interest. I actually prefer their calculator since it doesn't require downloading and installing software.
