LOVE My Bank!
Chase Manhattan Bank
(5 stars)I have been with this bank for years and years - starting back when they were Washington Mutual. I have NEVER had a bad experience with this bank. EVERY teller is friendly and knowledgable. There are hardly ever lines at 2 of the branches that I go to, but when there is, they go pretty fast. There are NO fees for ANYTHING, except for overdraft fees, but that is my own fault when that happens. I now have a debit card that gives me points for every purchase I make (when used as a credit card, not using the pin) AND points for all bills paid online (which, of course, is free). I would recommend this bank to anyone and everyone.

I have been with chase also for along time, but only for the free checks and a place to hold some of my money. Otherwise they have laughable rates and I don't know about thier fees, I'm sure there are plenty of them, I just never get myself in a position where they can hit me with them. The people there are nice, almost apollogilically( is this a word?) nice, since they know they will try to **** with you if you let your guard down.

Hallelujah!
As for a typical fee trap, on 1/6/10 Chase reduced the maximum number of monthly transfer withdrawals for Chase SavingsSM from the standard federal regulation of 6 to 4. No account notice disclosures were sent to alert unsuspecting customers and after the fifth monthly transfer an excess withdrawal fee of $3 was assessed. With a generous .01% interest rate the penalty could be recovered in 100 years, assuming a $300 minimum balance was maintained to avoid the $4 monthly service fee (133 years, 4 months of interest).
To their credit, after an hour of protesting rejections up the phone center phylogeny, a reasonable middle management CSR agreed to a one-time refund on the strength of a flawless 14 year account history, 13 of which were with WAMU.
Thank you, Chase.
