Discover Bank's Premium Savings Account

This won't help any new customers, but for some existing customers, you get a nice perk. The premium rate appears to now be around 1.50% APY compared to the regular 1.35% APY. A reader forwarded me an email from Discover Bank which provided more info on the Premium Savings Account. Here's an excerpt:

Any account changed to a Premium Savings Account was given the status based on it being brought over from E*Trade and any other account opened prior to March 2010. These accounts will maintain this status and although it is a variable rate account it holds a higher interest than any new Savings Accounts opened.

As an ex-Etrade customer whom didn't get this offer I called to enquire about it. It is only being offered to those whom have let their account become dormant. The CSR also said this offer to upgrade your account was a special offer for this month (August).
