BB&T Esavings Account & Checking Bonus Reminder

BB&T (0 stars) - Details
I came across BB&T's eSavings Account while searching through their site. As you might expect from a large regional bank, it's not a high interest savings account. The rate is very low for an internet savings account (only 0.35% as of 8/22/2010). It may only be useful if you already have a checking account or other accounts at the bank. At least it has no monthly fees and no minimum balance requirements.

I'm not sure if it has an ACH bank-to-bank transfer service. According to the eSavings webpage, deposits made from an outside bank can only be done for the initial deposit. However, a bank rep via online chat said that ACH transfers could be made online (She wasn't able to provide any details).

The eSavings Account is only available to those who live in states which have BB&T branches which isn't a big deal since I don't know why someone would open this account if you weren't already a customer.

BB&T's $100 checking account bonus is still available (scheduled to end on 8/31/2010). Please refer to this BB&T bonus review for more details.

I applied online and got the message that my idenity was not verifiable. I have never had that happen before. I called CSR and was told that the only way to apply now is if i go into a branch -- closest branch---- 400 miles from me.

So, i applied for an account in my wife's name/SS# and she got the same result.

Seems odd to me! Anyone else get this result?
