This LA Times article described a case in which a man apparently received a counterfeit $100 bill at his credit union, and then when he deposited the $100 bill at Chase Bank, he almost lost the $100 even after Chase accepted the bill. The standard is that the last one to hold a counterfeit bill is the one who loses.
