Capital One's $200 Free Reward Checking Bonus - YMMV

I reviewed a similar Capital One $200 bonus last year. It was a targeted promotion, but some readers reported being able to get the bonus at a branch. So it's a "Your Miles May Vary" (YMMV) kind of deal.

This new one was mentioned in this SlickDeals thread. The new promo code is RD2, and the offer is scheduled to last until 11/30/2010. One plus as compared to last year is that it doesn't require direct deposit. They only require 2 debit card purchases.

It appears to require a branch visit. Branches are located in Texas, Louisiana, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC (The branches in the DC metro area were just recently converted from Chevy Chase Bank)

There's a new $200 promotion which is scheduled to last until June 30, 2011. The new promo code is RC2. This was reported in this FW thread. As before it's only available at Capital One branches, and it's a targeted promotion so it's a YMMV deal.

One thing that has changed is that it requires direct deposit.

Another thing that has changed since last year is that Capital One's reward checking now has monthly fees. After the first year there's a $8.95 monthly fee if your balance falls below $1,500.
