Webster Bank's New Monthly Checking Account Fee

Banks are starting to charge monthly fees on "free" checking accounts unless customers perform a required number of transactions or maintain a minimum balance. Here's the new Webster Bank fee described by this Boston.com article:

Customers using Webster Bank’s basic checking will soon have to pay $8.95 a month if they do not have an average monthly balance of $1,000 or use their debit card 10 times a month.
