Most Banking Customers Opt In For Overdraft Protection

Saturday, November 27, 2010 - 7:58 AM
Wall Street Journal reported in this article that 75% of consumers have opted in for overdraft protection in which they'll be charged a high fee each time they overdraft their account with their debit cards. It turns out that the new regulation didn't have much effect. Perhaps most banking customers don't think they'll overdraft. The good news for us savers who are careful to avoid overdrafts is that this will make it easier for the banks to offer free checking and other checking perks.
