If you're retireed with plenty of assets, is life insurance necessary? The personal finance columnist Scott Burns answers a reader's question about this in the Boston.com personal finance section. According to Burns, "most of us should outgrow our need for life insurance as we approach retirement."

Senior retiree life insurance is an almost necessity for those heading toward retirement or for those already in retirement. It is significant for beneficiaries, estate planning and future investments. For those who have not already purchased coverage, there are many companies that offer policies that can still be purchased near retirement age.
