Applying For Ally Bank Account With A Credit Freeze

Wednesday, December 15, 2010 - 6:26 PMAlly Bank - Details
You may have trouble if you apply for an Ally Bank account if you have a credit freeze. A Bogleheads member describes his experience applying for an Ally online savings account while he had a credit freeze with 3 of the credit bureaus. He was forced to lift the freeze on all 3.

As I described in this thread, there has also been a similar report for an application with PenFed. A reader in that thread described why banks do credit checks when you apply for deposit accounts.

I have been a long-time Ally customer since they offered some very competitive online savings rate many years ago.  I have to admit that their customer service has gone down rapidly.  All customer related issues are now handled by "Operation Center", which is highly inefficient and annoying at times.  They are now simply unreliable and not trustworthy.

I am thinking of either going for Alliant or simply using check-writing as a means of rate hopping for reward checking accounts.
