Megabanks Encouraging Branch Visits To Improve Business

Thursday, December 16, 2010 - 6:01 PM
From AP via Yahoo:
That old-fashioned habit of stopping in at your local branch is being encouraged again as the banking industry looks to put the spark back in service.

Article describes steps that are being taken by Citi, Bank of America and Chase to attract more customers. Unfortunately, there wasn't any mention of one simple way: increasing deposit rates!

I can see it now:
"Smiling Face promotion; Visit a friendly teller for your next transaction and we'll give you a $1 bonus, up to $5 a month for enjoying our friendly service." At least golden-coin couriers can make an extra bonus!

But of course banks will be redesigned like drug stores; tellers in the very back behind a labyrinth of store fixtures, flyer holders and televisions selling everything from loans to insurance. Bank employees stand in your way peddling their product of the month.

But return of free cookies & coffee would be nice.
