Chase Misses Checks' Red Ink, Closes Bank Account

From the San Francisco Chronicle:

Checks written in red ink plunged a Berkeley couple into the red after a Chase bank scanner didn't record the writing, marked them as fraudulent and caused the couple's account to be shut down, leaving them without money to pay their mortgage and other bills.

This is one of the risks with using ATMs for depositing checks (even the new ATMs with scanners).
