Comparing CDs With Bonds

In many asset allocation strategies, there is a mix stocks and bonds. Can CDs replace bonds? There are some similarities. This Boglehead Wiki has a good comparison between CDs and bonds. CDs do have some advantages. This blog post at the Irrational Investor describes the advantages of a PenFed CD over bonds in today's environment.
