I opened a checking and savings account with Bank of America several years ago. I chose Bank of America because they have numerous branches in my city and throughout the United States. After several bad experiences with other banks, I have been pleasantly surprised with Bank of America’s customer service. I recently had fraudulent charges post to my account and Bank of America was very fast and helpful in resolving the matter to my satisfaction. I had to change my debit card and they provided me with a temporary card so that I would not be without one while my permanent card was being sent through the mail. I love being able to make both cash and check deposits through the ATM and the online banking system is excellent. The local branch staff is always friendly and responsive to my questions and concerns. The only negative I have is that I receive many telemarketing calls from Bank of America affiliates offering insurance and other services. I could do without those calls.

1. Tuesday, February 22, 2011 - 9:58 AMThese appear to be people paid to post glowing comments about certain banks and also to post comments trashing competitors. They never mention the rates on deposit products or the ability to make ACH transfers between the bank and other financial institutions. It's no secret that BofA has hired a company to counter-act any bad press about them pending a possible Wikileak expose.

First time and anonymous contributors to the forum can be assets but I believe Ken needs to screen / approve their posts to reduce the vacuous noise factor until they subside in apathy. Hired special interests counteracting bad press is a possible explanation but how else to neutralize without editorial excision? Some have suggested filtering by featured posts but many valuable contributions are missed. Whatever positive effect unrestricted access has on site traffic & ranking, everyone else suffers without judicious intervention.

Recently I opened a checking account with Bank of America. For only a super-low $15 monthly fee, I get to write as many checks as I want without worrying about a minimum balance. That's less than I was paying at Walmart! Yes, other banks may offer free checking but they lend your money to Osama bin Laden!!! That's why I recommend BoA.
