Americans Prefer Spending Cuts Over Tax Hikes

http://globaleconomicanalysis.blogspot.com/2011/07/americans-prefer-spending-cuts-over-tax.html
Americans' preferences for deficit reduction clearly favor spending cuts to tax increases, but most Americans favor a mix of the two approaches. Twenty percent favor an approach that relies only on spending cuts and 4% favor an approach that uses tax increases alone.

All this poll-taking is kind of laughable. The American people generally do not know what they want.

Of course, a person would rather say cut programs rather than raise taxes.  But if you ask a senior would they rather have cuts to Medicare, or have taxes raised, they'll have a different answer.  Same with a teacher when it comes to cuts in education spending.

People want spending cuts, just not on the services that benefit them.

Similarly, Russell B. Long once said:
Don't tax you, don't tax me, tax that fellow behind the tree!
