Debit Card Scammers Fined $4.8 Million

A federal court has ordered short-term loan providers Matthew Patterson, Mark Benning and Jason Strober of “Swish Marketing Inc.” to pay out in excess of $4.8 million after they reportedly tricked thousands of pay day loan applicants into purchasing debit cards.

Swish Marketing Inc. owned and operated a number of different websites offering to match services from various lenders and people in need of short term loans.

The application forms for the loans appeared on all of the websites, but while filling out and submitting the applications, consumers were also unwittingly agreeing to assume charges for a debit card.
