Dividend-Paying Stock ETFs: Comparing VIG With SDY

Thursday, October 13, 2011 - 5:35 AM
This Q&A from USA Today reviews exchange traded funds (ETF) that own dividend-paying stocks. It offer suggestions to a reader asking how to choose between Vanguard Dividend Appreciation (VIG) and SPDR S&P Dividend (SDY).

One thing not mentioned in the article is the total return history of these ETFs. I found VIG's history at Vanguard.com. Like most all other stock funds, it was hit hard in 2008. Its total return in 2008 was -26.50% (that's negative 26.50%).
