Online Banking Keeps Customers On Hook For Fees

Most people will likely keep their accounts at the large banks even if they get charged with new fees. As described in this New York Times article, one big reason is online banking and online bill pay:
The 2008 study showed that customers who made five or more payments online a month were 95 percent less likely “to churn,” while consumers who didn’t bank online were 43 percent more likely to leave.

This is why banks are willing to give cash bonuses when you establish direct deposit and use online bill pay.
