Credit Union Pledges Fee-Free Checking For Life

A Long Island credit union, seeking to capitalize on growing antibank sentiment, is offering new customers guaranteed “fee free” checking accounts — for life.

It's another example of a credit union trying to get the attention of customers leaving the big banks after their recent announcements of new fees.

One thing not mentioned in the Bucks blog post is that this is a reward checking account although the interest rate is disappointing. You can qualify for 1.00% APY if you meet monthly requirements including 15 debit card purchases. There doesn't appear to be a balance cap.

Another nice thing to note about Bethpage is that they are part of the shared branch network and the Co-Op ATM network.
