In addition to showing how far off economists and market strategists have been in predicting market returns in 2011, Allan Roth in his CBS MoneyWatch article shows how far off last year's predictions of interest rates were:
Predicting stock returns is never easy, but it turns out predicting interest rates may be even harder. On May 5 of this year, Wells Fargo chief economist, John Silvia, proclaimed interest rates would definitely rise for the remainder of 2011.

 Conclusion: No one knows anything. Unfortunately some people get paid millions of dollars for pretending that they know something about which they are consistently wrong on.
