When you travel outside of the US, you can be charged a currency conversion fee for credit card purchases and ATM transactions. Bankrate.com has a useful article explaining the fees and providing a list of fees charged by several of the major banks. Oneo of the best banks that charges no currency conversion fee is Capital One.

We live in Mexico and we use the Capital One Platinum No Hassle Rewards MasterCard here for groceries, gas, etc. It's auto paid from a Capitol One free savings account that's now paying 1.35% APY.  It's a great combination and it makes the easy lining here even easier.
