Charles Schwab Bank Cuts Savings and Checking Rates

High Yield Savings Account rate is now 0.75% APY (was 1.05%). High Yield Investor Checking rate is now 0.60% APY (was 0.75%).

It's hard to believe that this checking account rate used to be 4.25% APY (see checking rate history and the savings rate history).

How low do the rates have to go before they remove "high yeild" in the names? Should anything under 1% be considered high yield?

Ken, yesterday someone at FW made a comment in the "Best Nationally-Available High APY Liquid Accounts" thread, which is very similar to your "Weekly Rate Summary" article. Maybe banks which pay < 1% APY should be removed from the list, and yours, since a rate that low cannot be considered "high yield."

Good idea. This Saturday I'll start excluding savings accounts with rates under 1%.
