Fed Policy Makers Hint at Low Rates Possibly Into 2011

Two senior Federal Reserve policy makers spoke Thursday about risks to the economy and the prospects for meager job growth and low inflation, supporting the view that the Fed will keep short-term interest rates low well into the year and possibly into 2011.

Federal Reserve officials again reiterated their commitment to low interest rates for "an extended period" on Thursday, given the fragile nature of the economic recovery, and suggested a reduction in the size of the central bank's balance sheet could take as long as two decades.

The Fed under Bernanke will hold rates near zero for a long time. They don't want to take the punchbowl away from Wall Street. If one doesn't want to put their funds at risk then you have to face the reality of low, low deposit rates continuing.
