Forecast: Many banks will be loath to lend in 2010 [The Columbian]

A community bank president gives his forecast for 2010 in The Columbian article. Here is what he says about deposit growth:

Core customer deposits provide the best source of cash for banks, so expect banks to focus on deposit growth - especially business and checking accounts

So we may see some good deals on checking accounts. However, he doesn't think we'll see much loan growth:

Banks will repair and reduce balance sheets rather than lend and grow in the coming year

That's not good for deposit growth and CD rates.
