Prepaid Cards Have Different Rules than Gift Cards

If you receive a prepaid card as a rebate after you make a purchase, you have to pay special attention to make sure you don't miss out on the card's full value. As this Bankrate.com article describes, "rebate cards don't have the same protections as gift, credit or debit cards."

Whenever I get these silly cards, I head right over to amazon and buy myself a gift card. The gift cards never expire as far as I can tell and they track the remaining balance for me next time I order. It is way easier than telling the grocery checker you want to "put $21.47 on this one" so you can use up the oddball leftover balance on your prepaid CC.
