Why Does Food Cost So Much?

Food is probably a larger portion of a saver's budget than what the government's CPI-U includes, and thus, this is one factor that makes it look like the CPI numbers are not accurately measuring inflation. This MintLife Blog article reviews the issue of rising food costs. It doesn't provide any good news in the outlook:
