Over the last few years we've seen many rate cuts on reward checking accounts, and sometimes those cuts can be big. That was the case on Friday at Coppermark Bank. Just like the last one, there's also a $200 bonus, but that requires a checking account with high monthly service fees that can't be easily waived. Yesterday I learned about MidFirst Direct, the internet division of MidFirst Bank. It offers a money market account, checking account and CDs with maturities of 3 months to 60 months. Both the money market account and checking account have low rates, but I was pleasantly surprised to see some very competitive CD rates. Compared to other internet banks, the best two are a 1.35% APY 1-year CD and a 1.40% APY 18-month CD. United Federal Credit Union is offering a few good CD and IRA CD deals. First, there's a share certificate special with a 43-month term. Rates are based on the deposit amount: 1.60% APY for $100K, 1.50% APY for $50K and 1.35% APY for $500. The credit union's long-term premier certificates are also good deals. The seven banking divisions of BOK Financial Corporation are offering a cash bonus for opening a new checking account. Four of the divisions are offering a $100 bonus, and the other three are offering a $50 bonus. Update 5/25/2012: The 5-year Premium Money Market CD rate has fallen. According to the CSR, it's now 1.65% APY (down from 1.80% APY on 5/11). This is for California. Rates may vary for other states.

It's not common to find competitive CD rates at large brick-and-mortar banks, but I found one at Bank of the West. It's offering a 2.00% APY 5-year CD.
