Top CD & Savings Account Rates at American Plus Bank in CA - Local Only
Like many banks, deposit rates have fallen at American Plus Bank, N.A. since September when I last reviewed this bank. However, it continues to offer competitive rates on its mid-term CDs. The three best are the 0.95% APY 6-month CD, 1.16% APY 1-year CD and the 1.36% APY 2-year CD. Minimum deposit is $1,000. These rates are listed at the bank's rates page as of 12/27/2011.
Unlike the CD rates, the bank's savings account rates have remained the same since September. So they're even more competitive. The top rate is 1.10% for a balance of at least $100,000. For balances of $10K to up to $100K, the rate is 0.98%. This savings account has a history of competitive rates. In early 2010, it had a 1.78% APY. The savings account requires a minimum balance of $300 to avoid monthly service charges.
It appears that a branch visit is required to open an account. It's a small two-office bank that was established in 2007. The two branches are located in the Los Angeles metro area cities of Rowland Heights and Arcadia.
The bank's financial health has improved since my September post. Its overall health score has improved from 4 stars to 5 stars (out of 5). Its Texas Ratio is 8.65% (above average) based on September 2011 data. Please refer to our financial overview of American Plus Bank for more details. The bank is a member FDIC (FDIC Certificate # 58469).
