3.92% 12-Month CD at Baptist Credit Union in Texas

POSTED ON BY

Baptist Credit Union is offering several competitive CD rates: 3.92% APY for 12 months, 4.13% APY for 24 months and 4.18% APY for 36 months. Minimum deposit is $500. These rates are listed in the credit union's rate table as of 1/13/09. The rate table has a November date so I called yesterday and confirmed these rates are still available. However, they're subject to change at any time.

One nice feature of the rate table is that it lists all of the CD details including early withdrawal penalties.

Credit union membership is open to members of churches belonging to the Dallas and San Antonio Baptist Association. Please refer to the credit union's Membership Page for the full details. Membership requires a minimum balance of $25 in the share savings account.

Branches are located in San Antonio and Dallas.

The credit union has some strong ratings for soundness: 4 stars (sound) at Bankrate and 5 stars (superior) at BauerFinancial. Both ratings are based on 9/30/08 financial data. The credit union is federally insured by the NCUA (Charter # 68358).

8.30% 12-Month CD at a Texas CU ($2K Max)
Baptist Credit Union is offering a 8.30% APY 1-year certificate of deposit. There's no minimum deposit. The maximum deposit limit is $2K per member. Money must be new to the credit union.

This interest rate is about 3% above the best 1-year CDs. So for one year with a $2K deposit, this CD will earn you about an extra $60 compared to a 5.30% CD. Unlike other similar past deals (10% CD and 8% CD), this one doesn't seem to require a checking account.

The credit union is also advertising an...
