3.25% 40-Month CD at Legacy Banks in NY & MA - Local Only

Legacy Banks have a CD special with a competitive rate on a 40-month term. The APY is 3.25%, and it has a minimum deposit of $1,000. There's also a 4-month CD special which has a less competitive APY of 1.25%. These rates are listed in the bank's CD rates page as of 10/06/09 for both New York and Massachusetts.

It appears that a branch visit is required to open an account. Branches are located in several MA and NY cities including Pittsfield and Lenox, MA and Albany and Windham, NY.

The bank's ratings for safety and soundness are above averge: 4 stars (excellent) at BauerFinancial (based on 6/30/09 data) and 3 stars (performing) at Bankrate.com (based on 3/31/09 data). The bank was established in 1893 and has been a FDIC member since 1985 (FDIC Certificate # 90265).

Beacon Federal is offering some competitive mid- and long-term CD rates. The best deals are its bump-up CD specials with a 2.45% APY for 24 months and 2.25% APY for 18 months. Minimum deposit is $2,500. These rates are listed in the bank's rate sheet as of 7/23/09. The rate sheet can be accessed from the bank's Investment Savings Account page.
