Black Hills FCU (SD) Offers Competitive Long-Term CDs

Availability: Residents of 11 western and 9 central South Dakota counties.

Black Hills Federal Credit Union’s (BHFCU) 7-8 year CD and 7-8 year Ultimate CD currently offer a range of competitive tiered APYs.

The 7-8 year CD requires a minimum $500 opening deposit and has four rate tiers:

    2.40% APY, $500+; 2.50% APY, $25k+; 2.55% APY, $99k+; and 2.60% APY, $200k+.

The 7-8 year Ultimate CD requires an open Ultimate Checking account, and has three rate tiers:

    2.60%, $25k+; 2.65%, $99k+; and 2.70%, $200k+.

Ultimate Checking

The Ultimate Checking is not a Rewards Checking Account, but a personal checking account that currently earns 0.08% APY on all balances. There is no minimum balance required to open an Ultimate Checking account, but a $1.5k minimum daily balance needs to be maintained to avoid the $7.50 monthly service fee.

As stated in the Truth In Savings document, the Early Withdrawal Penalty reads as follows:

For certificates with terms of 36 months or more, the penalty is the greater of
2% of the amount withdrawn or 180 days of dividends on the amount withdrawn.

Availability

Headquartered in Rapid City, South Dakota, Black Hills Federal Credit Union’s field of membership (FOM) is primarily residency based, with individuals who live, work, worship, volunteer, or attend school in the South Dakota counties of Buffalo, Butte, Custer, Dewey, Fall River, Haakon, Hughes, Hyde, Jerauld, Lawrence, Lincoln, Meade, McCook, Miner, Pennington, Sanborn, Stanley, Sully, Turner, or Ziebach eligible to join.

In addition, immediate family members and household members of eligible individuals also qualify for membership.

Joining BHFCU and opening a 7-8 year CD or Ultimate CD can be done online, or at any of 14 South Dakota branches located in Custer, Eagle Butte, Hot Springs, Pierre, Rapid City (6), Sioux Falls, Spearfish, Sturgis, and Wall.

The minimum deposit for the 5.50% APY is $100. An APY of 5.75% is available with a minimum deposit of $25K. With an Ultimate Checking Account and $25K deposit, the APY is 5.86%.
